What email accounts can I use?

You can use Boomerang for iPhone with Gmail, G Suite, Office 365, Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, and Microsoft Exchange email accounts.

What iOS versions are compatible with Boomerang for iPhone?

Boomerang for iPhone is compatible with iOS 10.0 and higher.

Which languages are localized in Boomerang for iPhone?

Boomerang for iPhone is only available in English right now. Let us know what languages you would like us to localize in the future!

How much does Boomerang for iPhone cost?

Boomerang for iPhone is free to use while in beta. We're funded by subscriptions, so if you like the app, we encourage you to support us by purchasing a subscription for our web-based products, Boomerang for Gmail and Boomerang for Outlook!

How do I add an account?

When you first open the Boomerang for iPhone app, you'll be able to add one email account through the account setup flow. To add additional accounts, tap the hamburger (3 horizontal lines) icon in the top left corner of your screen. Then, tap Settings > Add new account (under Account Settings).

How do I remove an account?

To remove an account, tap the hamburger (3 horizontal lines) icon in the top left corner of your screen and select "Settings" at the bottom of the menu. Under "Account Settings," tap on the account you want to remove. Scroll to bottom of that account page and click "Remove Account."

How do I revoke Boomerang's permissions to my email account?

Which of my calendars are added to my Boomerang for iPhone account?

Your primary default calendar will be synced with Boomerang for iPhone. If you'd like to change or check which calendars are connected with Boomerang, you can: navigate to Settings, then select your email address under Account Settings, and tap Calendars to include.

Voice Assistant

Here's a list of some voice commands that you can try out!

Brief Me: gives you a summary of your agenda, plus important and relevant messages that need your attention.

Find Me / Show Me: searches for emails with specific criteria.

Bulk Actions On Messages: allows you to take action on multiple messages at once.

Show Agenda: gives you an overview of upcoming events on your agenda.

Reschedule: reschedules events on your calendar and creates email drafts on your behalf, addressed to meeting participants.

Running Late: creates email drafts on your behalf, addressed to meeting participants informing them that you'll be running late. Just press send!

Cancel: cancels events on your calendar and creates email drafts on your behalf, addressed to meeting participants.

Clear: frees up your day, by cancelling scheduled events and creating email drafts on your behalf, addressed to meeting participants.

Inbox Pause: stop new email from coming into your Inbox until you're ready for it.

Create event: organize new events and add attendees.

What is Brief Me?

Brief Me gives you a summary of your agenda, plus important and relevant messages. Items that need your attention are categorized under two action cards: new messages and unanswered items. Boomerang surfaces the relevant portions of each email, tells you how long it will take to respond to, and finds open time on your calendar for you to handle it. For example, "You have 17 emails that are important and need a response, which should take about 45 minutes."

Why is the number of unread emails in my inbox greater than what's noted on Brief Me?

Brief Me will only count unread messages since yesterday that are in your Primary category and in your Inbox (not archived).

How does Boomerang decide what emails to list as an unanswered item?

Boomerang uses machine learning to identify messages with action items from people that are of some significance to you. For example, an email from a random sender asking "Can we meet on Monday at 3 PM?" will be ignored by Brief Me. However, an email from your coworker Joe that says, "Can you send me this document?" will be recognized as an unanswered item if you haven't replied to that email yet.

Why does it say invalid command in red when I try to use a voice command?

That message means that the server that handles voice commands for your account is overloaded. Take a 5 minute break, then try another voice command. If it still doesn’t work after that, try force quitting and restarting the app. To reduce the chances of this happening, wait 15-20 seconds in between each command so our servers don’t catch on fire. Sorry for the trouble - we expect this problem to go away soon after launch!

Are you recording everything I'm saying?

No. Boomerang doesn't collect or transmit any audio data unless you activate the voice assistant by pressing the microphone button or by saying "Hey Boomerang." Voice commands are translated into text in the cloud, but we don't send any information about who you are when we make that translation.

What is key phrase mode?

Key phrase mode allows you to activate Boomerang's voice assistant without having to press the mic icon. Enable the key phrase in Settings, then say, "Hey Boomerang," to get it started. Once our voice assistant beeps and shows "Boomerang Is Listening..." in the top bar of your screen, you're free to say your voice command, no hands needed!

Can I turn "Key Phrase Mode" off?

Yes! "Key Phrase Mode" is off by default. To turn it on/off, tap the hamburger (3 horizontal lines) icon in the top left corner of your screen. Then, tap Settings > Voice Assistant > Key Phrase Mode On/Off.

What is "Text-To-Speech"?

When Text-To-Speech is on, your Brief Me summary will be read aloud to you. To turn it on/off, tap the hamburger (3 horizontal lines) icon in the top left corner of your screen. Then, tap Settings > Voice Assistant > Text-To-Speech On/Off. More exciting applications of text-to-speech are coming soon!

Intelligent Query

What is Intelligent Query? Intelligent Query is a quick and efficient tool that sifts through your email to find exactly what you're looking for, using search terms. To use Intelligent Query, tap on the search bar at the top of your inbox view.

What can I search for?

You can use one search term or a combination of search terms to refine your search.

How do I find emails that are marked important and/or starred?

Use the Intelligent Query search term "is" and select important and/or starred.

How do I find my emails from specific Gmail / G Suite Categories (such a Primary, Promotions, Updates, Social, and Forums)?

Use the Intelligent Query search term "category" and select a category.

Basic How-To's / Features

How do I take action (delete, archive, mark as read/unread, label, boomerang) with a message from the inbox view?

You can swipe right to archive and swipe left to activate magic swipe. Once magic swipe is activated, you can flick the message to complete whichever action you'd like (such as move, mark as read, or boomerang)!

How do I pause my inbox and adjust my inbox pause settings?

You can pause your inbox by using our AI Voice Assistant. Tap on the mic icon at the top right corner and use a command such as, "Pause my Inbox" to stop new messages from coming in until you're ready for them. When you're ready to unpause, you can tap the mic icon again and say, "Unpause my Inbox."

How do I set up aliases (aka Send As or Send From) addresses? (Send from address in Settings > Account Settings)

Tap on the hamburger icon (3 horizontal lines) on the upper left side of the app to open the drawer and tap the Settings button at the bottom. From there, click on Account Settings for the email address you want to set up aliases with.

How do I edit, reschedule, or cancel a Send Later message?

Tap on the hamburger icon (3 horizontal lines) on the upper left side of the app and scroll to the Scheduled section. Tap on the Boomerang-Outbox label and select the message that you'd like to make changes to. From there, you'll see options to edit, reschedule, send now, and don't send.

How do I reschedule or cancel a message scheduled to boomerang?

Tap on the hamburger icon (3 horizontal lines) on the upper left side of the app and scroll to the Scheduled section. Tap on the Boomerang label and select the message that you'd like to make changes to. From there, you'll see options to reschedule, return now, and don't return.

Do I have to keep this signature?

Nope! Visit your account settings to set up any signature you'd like. If you choose to let other folks know about Boomerang in your signature, we really appreciate it!

I received an error message that says "too many results." What is the maximum number of emails I can perform a bulk action on?

You can perform a bulk action on up to 100 email threads. Boomerang is subject to the rate limits that Google and Microsoft apply to their services, so we have to limit the number of simultaneous actions we can take.

My bluetooth music starts acting weird when I open the app. Why is that?

When you're using certain bluetooth devices, key phrase mode can interfere with music playback. Sorry about that - we're working on it.

What time zone does Boomerang for iPhone use to schedule my messages?

Boomerang for iPhone will schedule your messages based on your device's system time zone.

How do I see Unread, Focused, and Categories View?

  1. Open the Boomerang for iPhone app
  2. Tap the hamburger (3 horizontal lines) icon on the top left
  3. Tap ‘Settings’ at the bottom
  4. Under the ‘Account Settings’ section, tap the account you wish to create a view for
  5. Select Display unread view (for Outlook and Gmail accounts), Display Gmail categories (for Gmail accounts), or Display Focused view (for Outlook accounts)

How do I add a Read Receipt request to my email?

When composing an email, tap on the envelope icon (directly above your keyboard on the right side) to add a Read Receipt. If you accidentally tap the icon, and do not wish to add a Read Receipt to that email, you can remove it by tapping the envelope icon again.

How long after my email is read, will I receive a Read Receipt in my Inbox?

For privacy reasons, the recipient of your email is given the option to opt out of sending a Read Receipt after he or she has opened the email. If he or she does not opt out within 10 minutes of opening the email, you will be notified that the email was read with a Read Receipt in your Inbox.

How do I enable Inbox Pause?

  1. Open the Boomerang for iPhone app
  2. Tap the hamburger (3 horizontal lines) icon on the top left
  3. Select the account that you’d like to use Inbox Pause for
  4. Click the Inbox Pause button
  5. You will have some options for your paused Inbox, such as an Auto Responder and the ability to Unpause Automatically.
  6. Customize the settings you wish to enable and tap the Pause Now button

How do I unpause my Inbox?

To unpause your Inbox manually, you can click the same button you used to pause your Inbox. Alternatively, you can click the link in the email you received when you paused your Inbox. If you would like your Inbox to unpause automatically, you can set Inbox Pause up to do so before you pause your Inbox.

How come I cannot add delivery exceptions for Inbox Pause?

Delivery exceptions are available for Boomerang Pro subscribers. If you are an Outlook user, and wish to use delivery exceptions for Inbox Pause, you can upgrade here: https://boomerangoutlook.baydin.com/payment?plan=pro. How do I use Respondable on Boomerang for iPhone?

When composing an email, you will notice the Boomerang logo at the top middle of the app. As you're typing the email, you will see the Respondable score reflecting the likelihood you'll get a response. The Respondable score ranges from red, very unlikely, to green, very likely. To see more details, click on the Boomerang logo at the top middle of the screen to open up the detailed view. You can tap on each parameter to see how you can improve your email. Respondable is currently free on Boomerang for iPhone, while in beta.

How do I import my Gmail signature into Boomerang for iPhone?

  1. Open the Boomerang for iPhone app
  2. Tap the hamburger (3 horizontal lines) icon on the top left
  3. Select ‘Settings’ at the bottom
  4. Under ‘Account Settings’, select the Gmail account you wish to import your signature for
  5. Select ‘Mobile Signature’
  6. Tap the ‘Download from Google’ button, on the top right

Privacy/Security

Why does Boomerang need access to my email, contacts, and calendar?

Because we are a full-featured email client, we need access to your mailbox in order to take action with your messages. Similarly, we need calendar access to provide convenient scheduling and manage appointments. We need contacts for auto-complete and search.

Why does Boomerang need access to my email and calendar contacts?

Boomerang needs contacts permissions so that we can auto-complete email addresses as you type. This also allows us to show photos of your contacts next to emails they send you! We don't save or upload this information anywhere, and we won't ever spam your contacts.

Why does Boomerang ask for microphone permissions?

Our awesome Voice Assistant feature requires microphone access in order to follow your commands. If you'd prefer not to use the Voice Assistant, you can turn microphone permissions off in your system settings.

Do you sell my data?

We do not sell your data and we never have.

Does Boomerang for iPhone read and/or store my emails?

Boomerang downloads messages from your mailbox in order to display them to you in the app. It stores message data locally on your device so that you don't have to re-download messages each time you open them. If you use some features, such as Send Later or Snooze, Boomerang will store headers of the message (message IDs, subject, sender, time) so that we can uniquely identify the message you want to schedule.
